Anıtkabir, Atatürk's Mausoleum

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whose last name means "father of the Turks", is Turkey's George Washington. And what trip to Ankara would be complete without Suat, the world's greatest tour guide, telling you that Atatürk changed Turkey's alphabet from Arabic to Latin, gave express permission to the military to intervene in the democratic process, and drank two liters of rakı a day??

Here's Suat, whose favorite word is "mainly", in front of the the national leader's mausoleum:

And some cool figures, whose significance I can't remember:

Look! SPEANs in Turkey!

And a lion!

Atatürk is buried in here!

This is Atatürk's last message to the Turkish army, in which he gave the army the responsibility to watch over the Republic. The army interpreted this to mean "stage a military coup", which it did in 1960, 1971, 1980, 1997 and 2007. Classic.

Look at that monument!

So artsy!

The view of Ankara from the Mausoleum!
