First Time Blogger

Dear blog perusers,

What you have to look forward to this summer is a series of ramblings and photos taken on a two-year-old cell phone. The theme will be the travel experiences of a SPEA Master's candidate and her classmates.

The two main destinations are Turkey and Greece. Weekdays: study economic development from the point of view of Turkey and farming from the point of view of a Greek family. Weeknights and weekends: study food, culture, people, language, religion, beaches, cities, architecture, cafes, music, art, and whatever else we can get our hands and eyes on. Like Anthony Bourdain--but with less money, fewer cameras and inferior style.

In the next few weeks, goals include:

1. Figure out how to fund this thing because people will surely benefit from that kind of info in the future.

2. Read all the books about Turkey and Greece.

3. Figure out how to pack things frugally and sustainably. And also, figure out what to pack.

4. Practice the 20 Turkish words related to greetings, bathroom locations and restaurant bills that we learned.

5. Book all travel flights/ferries/trains/buses.

After that, goals include:

1. Speak some Turkish and Greek.

2. Make some international friends.

3. Eat amazing food, and try the coffee.

4. See and do once-in-a-life-time things.

5. Share it all with you in at least 3 blogs a week.

Will write (read: ramble) again soon!!

XOXO

Julia
